It is truly said that It is as important to know “What to do”, as to know “What not to do”. Interview is quite a final step before entering into a lucrative career. But, some of our misdoings spoil it over , and the whole tedious process gets violated all of sudden. So, how to stay protected? Simple, work on what not to do, and simply get used to it as soon as possible.
An interview is a many to one function, so, definitely, there would be more than one person in the panel. It’s quite obvious then, you need to deal with so many different aspects at a time , once a question is raised by one of the member of the panel. But, wait!! take a pause here, Exactly, at that moment, we start getting nervous , get ourselves into trouble , simply by responding in inappropriate way e.g. start using of so many fillers that is nothing but a sign of nervousness, which is not at all good for your interview.
Nervousness is not just the single thing which actually spoil the interview, but actually there are some aspects that play more intense role in ruining your interview even more than nervousness. Confused, Right? What, this can’t be true. But, it’s true.
Here, I’m going to tell you the five most important factors that will help you out in sorting out the interview easily.
Here we go,
1. In order to justify yourself, never argue with them.
See, this generally not happen with everybody, but still to be in the good books of the panel, you are supposed to keep this in your mind. You never know, when your interview gets wired turn, what would it impact and how much. So, respond in the optimistically polite way, irrespective of the situation in which they might be testing your patience. See, nobody wants an arrogant employee in one’s team/company. They usually never let you know this, that they have found you somewhat arrogant. Now, here you might ask us a question i.e. How do I suppose to be polite enough when they are asking/questioning my credibility, my confidence…because usually this happen with practically everybody, when someone questions your credibility, patience or confidence…in reply, he might get some sort of arrogant or simply say, an impolite answer. so, here the question comes, Is this right to show our this side of persona in an interview during such situations….So, the answer is pretty simple….Yes, sometimes showing your this side of persona is somewhat required, this certainly, never goes out-of-the-way. So, no need to get yourself into the thought box, Right. Simply remember these following things while you get into such situations:
- Just stay calm, calmness provides you strength to tackle any kinds of problems. And, it can be understood clearly that thoughts, ideas could be more effective if they come in silence.
- Sometimes, a simple dialogue answers everything. e.g. You probably know the dialogue from the “Deewar” a Bollywood movie , when Shashi Kapoor says ,” Aaj mere paas gadi hai, banglow hai, bank balance hai; tumhare paas kya hai, in reply Amitji simply says ,” Mere paas MAA hai”. His this dialogue ends the conversation there. Shashi Sir self appreciation here is a big questionable question on Amitji’s credibility, but he simply suppress everything with his single smashing dialogue. Sometimes, some sort of dialoguebajji is required in an interview, but please, don’t get me wrong here, and in coming interview, you just start doing dialoguebaaji irrespective of its requirement or not. Please, try to grab the context of its reference with your interview part, and its extent as well. Sometimes, even in films, you might have noticed a simple dialogue annoys others, so why not the panel could get!!!! So, in simple words, we have to maintain the decorum of the interview, and at the same time, we should respect the panel as well, because they are already very learned and experienced. And, nobody wants to dishearten anybody, simply by not giving the job to him, since the seats are limited, so they have to do this tough job, and in that situation, if you start making random picks, in that case, who would save you????? So, behave properly and stay calm.
2. Leave your “EGO” at your home, never showcase it to the panel.
As, we know, usually everybody argues when his EGO gets hurt. And, without knowing the reasons of why did this happen, he starts driving his engine and ruins everything by simply ending up the interview on a single note ‘OK YOU CAN GO, WE’ ARE DONE HERE’. Don’t let this happen to you. Yes, you can avoid your EGO, for this, you need not to think beyond the line, or out of the box, you just need to think in this way i.e. whenever they are tempting you to raze yourself, so just remember this, saying SORRY is more than enough to let them forget your misdeeds in the interview and forgive you for your misconduct (if any). And just after saying sorry, simply show your possibly sweet genuine simple, this will give you an opportunity to a new start. But if, somehow you get trapped yourself in very bad situation of arguing with the panel, in that case also, there is a ray of hope to come out of that situation and let the panel to select you , simply , SAY THIS ,
“SIR & MAM, WITH DUE RESPECT, I DIDN’T MEAN TO ARGUE WITH SUCH A LEARNED SENIORS, AND ALSO, I DIDN’T WANT TO HURT YOU AT ANY CORNER, BUT IF YOU FIND ME ARROGANT, I’M EXTREMELY SORRY FOR MY UNINTENSIONAL BEHAVIOUR, BUT I’VE SOMETHING TO SAY, PLEASE, MAM, I’M AS ARROGANT AS A MOTHER WHO TRIES TO SAVE HER CHILD FROM DANGER, AND SIR, I’M AS ARROGANT AS A FATHER WHO CHIDE HIS CHILD AT THE TIME OF HIS ANY MISCONDUCT, WITH JUST A SIMPLE VISION OF MAKING HIM A GOOD HUMAN BEING”.
But, above statement is not for everyone, this is just for those who almost ruined their interview just because of the ego, arrogance, or any kind of misconduct. I’m not saying this , this will save you, but this could.
3. Control your rate of speech, breath and emotions
See, when we get out of our breath, we get nervous and start speaking in either very loud or very fast that gets possibly difficult to understand for others. And, trust me, this shows your incompetency to handle the pressure. which I suppose you need not let them feel so. Getting nervous, out of breath or emotional is very common and there is nothing wrong with these. But this degrades your standard of competency , credibility and confidence level, which eventually, gonna hamper your interview. So, the question is how to hide this or Is It possible enough to control these? See, the genuine answer is simply NO, all these are out of our control , but not all the time( this is the good news). We can control them once they come, but we can’t stop their occurrence or engulfing us. So, irrespective of their flashing, follow these steps to control them till the end of the interview:-
- Speak as slowly as possible, this will give you time to boost your confidence again, and once it is restored, even then, speak in a normal pace, that will help you to maintain your confidence rhythm till the end of the interview.
- Don’t try to speak a lot , speak selective cum quality things. See, speaking both ways are not good, i.e. first is speaking fast with quality stuffs, and the second is speaking less with quantity stuffs.
4. Never explains too much about anything, unless asked
Sometimes, its in our nature, if we know something, if asked , we explains it in a very basic proper way, which sometimes take so many basic concepts, which no doubt takes time to finish, and the panel are left with no other option than to listen you, so, something happens with you, try not to explain every basic stuffs in detail , please, get this straight in your mind, that this won’t show your credibility low. Just try to be precise enough so that it won’t create a viva type of feeling, your interview is not a practical viva, in which you are supposed to know, explain everything irrespective of asked or not, this is just a many2one interaction, let them ask as many question as possible , and replying almost all their questions place you at top of the credibility chart, so, instead of explaining deeply, go precise, be relevant and to the point. This shows your better understanding of the subject, in-depth knowledge.
So, in short, don’t explain too much, over answer question asked, let them ask the question, don’t answer of those anticipated questions unless it is not asked. Sound sensible, brief and precisely accurate.
5. Never enter the ‘interview room’ with an anticipated perception.
As you know, no one knows the future, but it’s also true your anticipation won’t be true all the time if it had earlier. Perceptive mindset in an interview is one of the main reason of your poor performance. So, how to avoid this practice, simply, never discuss from earlier candidates about their experiences of the interview if you can’t help yourself with your perceptive mind coming into action. If you really want to have the real-time experience before your interview, then just visit the venue one or two days before your schedule, and grab as much as you can. But doing the same on the main day, might not help you in positive way. So, better avoid doing such mistake. It’s not like this practice is completely wrong, but this one is not for all. If you can handle your perceptive mind, then you may. But if there is a doubt, better go organic instead of carrying others’ good/bad experiences in your interview, no one knows what impacts these gonna make????
I feel, you might have got the idea of how to handle the interview irrespective of its background or yours. i.e. whether you belong to their background or not…
So, All the very best and do share your experiences on our Facebook , twitter and other social links.!!!!!!
